Russ bought his Heavy Hauler kit from another builder. He's completed the wings, and over Labor Day Weekend, 2006, he invited Joanne Heckmann to stay with him and his wife Ellen (Joanne lives just 150 miles west near Rochester, NY) and provide advice and assistance. They started right in as soon as Joanne pulled in the driveway, broke briefly for lunch, and continued through 7pm that evening. They went through the controls from back to front, filing a little here, tightening a little there, until there was a smooth, solid feel to the controls. The flaperons were connected for the first time, and the wings were folded carefully while looking for interference.

Later that weekend, Russ and Ellen drove to visit family near Rochester, and despite a steady rain from the remnants of hurricane Ernesto, they went out to LeRoy, NY where Joanne's Avid is hangared so that Russ could take photos and measurements and see how another Avid went together.
